Welcome to Floyd Fandango Showdown Throwdown
Reimagining and reincarnating a cult classic, FloydFest and Across-the-Way Productions bring back Floyd Fandango Showdown Throwdown on June 25, 2016, at the FloydFest site, presented by Bank of Floyd. A celebration of beer, cider, wine, food, music and outdoor adventure, Floyd Fandango delivers an ‘old-skool’ festival vibe for its regional tribe. In addition to beer, cider and wine tastings, the festival features a solid sampling of patron-picked live music, a Farm-to-Table meal, free camping, and outdoor competitions, such as the Mountain X Cross Bike Race, Disc Golf Tournament and Rundango 5K Trail Race. ‘Skip the light fandango’ with us this June — heed the call of the wild!
What IS Floyd Fandango?
The love child of cult classic Floyd Fandango and 2015’s epic Showdown Throwdown Battle of the Bands finale, the Floyd Fandango Showdown Throwdown is the best in sophisticated raucousness! This is the giant jam sandwich of summer fun, including intimate performances by up-and-coming bands you’ve likely never heard of before, but certainly will in the near future, alongside tastings from the best local breweries, wineries and cideries, wide-open family fun and grassroots-style outdoor adventure competitions.
Floyd Fandango Showdown Throwdown is your boutique grassroots festival experience, and at $15 (advance) including onsite parking and overnight Premium Woodsy camping it’s an unbeatable entertainment bargain. Tickets are on sale NOW via the link on the right-hand side of this webpage …
BEER! WINE! CIDER!
In addition to music and outdoor adventure, Floyd Fandango is all about craft libations, and we certainly have every craving covered, with a healthy helping of beer, wine and cider! Upon entry, every patron receives three tokens (or “pogs”) that can be exchanged for alcohol samples, as well as either a beer pint or wine glass. Beyond that, tastings and full pours are available for purchase and partying by stopping by our conveniently located token tent! Tokens/pogs cost $2 each.
Here’s how it works — Between 1:30 and 7 p.m., 30-minute tastings will take place in our onsite ‘Drink Tank’ every 45 minutes. That’s five total tasting sessions — one for cider, two for beer, and two for wine; each session will include a variety of ciders, beer, and wine. At all times, craft libations (by the taste, glass, and bottle) will be for sale on the grounds … so no one will go thirsty, we assure you!
To participate in the tastings, the entry requirements are such:
• Beer — Four pogs to enter (receive eight two-ounce pours)
• Cider — Four pogs to enter (receive eight two-ounce pours)
• Wine — Four pogs to enter (receive four two-ounce pours)
(NOTE: If you’d like to participate in a tasting halfway through a session, you will be allowed to enter for two pogs, as opposed to four.)
Drink Tank times with libation-focus are as follows:
1:30 to 2 p.m. BEER
2:45 to 3:15 p.m. WINE
4 to 4:30 p.m. CIDER
5:15 to 5:45 p.m. BEER
6:30 to 7 p.m. WINE
Fandango-ers can look forward to liquid libations from Foothills Brewing Company, Starr Hill Brewery, Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company, Chaos Mountain Brewing, Bull & Bones Brewhaus & Grill, Bold Rock Hard Cider, Blue Toad Hard Cider, AmRhein’s Wine Cellars, Childress Vineyards, Villa Appalachia Winery, Chateau Morrisette Winery, Blake Snake Meadery, Foggy Ridge Cider, Stanburn Winery, Parkway Brewing Company and more!
And … get excited — Parkway Brewing Company will pour the delicious and dynamic “Floyd Fuel” Pale Ale — crafted locally with care in honor of FloydFest — during Floyd Fandango. Get ‘Fueled’ up with FloydFest and Parkway!
FloydFest On-The-Rise Band Showcase
Presented by Ferrum College, Farm-to-Feet, and Peluso Microphone Lab
Like all Across-the-Way productions, music takes center stage at Floyd Fandango … and the performer-picking process has already begun. Throughout April and May, AtWP and FloydFest has hosted a battle of the bands every Saturday night at its lil’ cubby of cool in downtown Roanoke, Va., The Phoenix. Select, winning bands from this process will enter FloydFest’s heralded On-the Rise Competition — sponsored by Ferrum College, Farm-to-Feet, and Peluso Microphone Lab — and grab a performance slot at Floyd Fandango.
On the OtR lineup for Floyd Fandango, please make welcome:
• Rebekah Todd (April 2 Phoenix winner)
• Forlorn Strangers (April 9 Phoenix winner)
• Skribe (April 23 Phoenix winner)
• OcTo Pus (May 7 Phoenix winner)
• Urban Soil (May 21 Phoenix winner)
• FeelFree (May 28 winner)
The musical hosts for the Fandango portion of entertainment will be the newgrass maestros Blue Mule, and stay tuned from 9:30 p.m. to midnight+ for the infamous Uncle John’s All-Star Band Late-Night Jam — where zany meets mayhem for some musical fun-dango. Don’t mistake, we will be sure to ‘let it all hang out.’ Musical debauchery, if you will.
Mountain X Cross Bike Race (2 p.m.)
Presented by Moonstompers and Starlight Bicycles
Our unique mountain cross bike track features log-jumps, a ride up-across-and-down FloydFest’s signature Dreaming Creek timber-framed Main Stage, and culminates with a hill-from-Hell and beer hand-off. The race is handled via our gracious partnerships with Moonstompers and Starlight Bicycles.
As an added bonus, Starlight Bicycles will have six demo bikes for patron use during Fandango, for folks that are unable to bring their own bike. After the bike race, the bikes will be for sale at a deep discount!
Disc Golf Tournament (3 p.m.)
Presented by Innova
The Disc Golf Tournament takes place onsite, through the gorgeous woods that border National Park land and comprises FloydFest camping in late July. FloydFest is fortunate to feature an 18-hole professional disc golf course, created with our friends at Innova Discs.
Rundango 5K Trail Race (Noon)
Presented by RunAbout Sports and Dr. Jim Deni
The Rundango 5K Trail Run happens onsite, through the gorgeous woods that border National Park land and comprises FloydFest camping in late July.
Fandango King and Queen of the Mountain
Care to be the first Floyd Fandango King and Queen of the Mountain?! The challenge is set; the course is cleared; June 25 approaches. As a new element to our ‘Rundango’ 5K Trail Race and Moonstomper Mountain X Cross Bike Race, we will now crown a male and female King and Queen of the Mountain, based on the top aggregate times from both races. The Rundango takes place at noon; the MTX Race at 2 p.m. — only the strong will conquer both, and be in the running to become Fandango royalty. As always, phenomenal prize packs await the winners, as well as royal crowns and treatment and all the pomp and circumstance we can muster and manifest. Game on, Fandango-ers. Game on.
Inaugural Floyd Fuel Four-Lapper Beer Run (4:20 p.m.)
Yep, we’re hosting a Beer Run. The inaugural Floyd Fuel Four-Lapper Beer Run costs $20 per team of four people. Each team member chugs a refreshing pint of Floyd Fuel Pale Ale, runs a 1/4-mile, and then passes the baton to the next teammate who does the same. The team of four that can chug all four beers and complete the mile-relay the fastest is crowned the winner! Signup at the Pog Sales Tent on the day of the race.
Presented by Riverstone Organic Farm, Martin’s Downtown, Parkway Brewing Company, and Floyd Rustic, featuring music by Blue Mule
New in 2016 — The $20 Farm-to-Table Meal (5 to 7 p.m.) is a unique up-sell option to truly round out your holistic Fandango experience. Featuring all local ingredients, and cooked onsite, this Farm-to-Table Meal offering includes ethically raised Appalachian pork BBQ, collared greens, roasted potato salad, fresh coleslaw, sweet cornbread, and a wine or beer pairing. The meal is served at a family-style table in the beautiful Pink Floyd beer and wine garden, with live music by Blue Mule, friends and family.
More EATS and SIPS!
Beyond the scrumptious Farm-to-Table menu, plenty of other food and drink offerings are featured at Floyd Fandango, including Dogtown Pizza, Fat Bean Taco, and Two Roosers Kettle Corn, as well as refreshment from Buffalo Mt.
